“There is a huge disconnect between our political class and what’s happening in America. Most in the political class don’t know what it’s like to struggle to pay their bills or make payroll. Other states in the West have already thrown off the political establishment. Now it’s Wyoming’s turn to add to the growing cavalry of non-politician reformers being sent to D.C.”
IMPORTANT ISSUES

Second Amendment

Darin's position on Gun Rights is the same as Charlton Helston’s: they’ll take my guns “from my cold, dead hands!” Our Second Amendment freedoms are the guarantee and protectorate of all of our other Constitutional rights, especially the Freedom of Speech, which seems to be under attack in America today.

Life

As Dr. Seuss states in Horton Hears a Who, "A person's a person, no matter how small" (or how sick).  Darin Smith believes in and will defend the sanctity of life, from the unborn to the most elderly and vulnerable.
Limited Government

We need to gut the federal bureaucracy and halt its unconstitutional abuse of power. Agencies like the EPA are choking out business and agriculture in America and putting a huge and unnecessary tax burden on the backs of the American people. The first step is to limit the scope of federal agency power.  Any agency regulation that infringes on constitutional rights or affects more than $10 million in property should require Congressional approval to avoid abuse or oppression from unelected officials.  An at-will federal employment system is the second step.

Congressional Accountability

Hold Congress accountable to serving the people instead of putting themselves above the people. By ending federal pensions for Congress and forcing legislators to rely on the Social Security system that most Americans do, legislators will have the incentive to shore up Social Security because it directly affects them. Also, Darin will support the bill already before Congress to dock members’ pay 10 percent each year they don’t balance a federal budget. Darin Smith will not be taking a federal pension upon his election because he feels it is immoral.

Education

Local control, local control, local control.  Parents, teachers, and local school boards know best.  Standards are fine, as long as they don’t infringe upon or force particular teaching methods.  Best teaching practices and the content taught should be left entirely to our state and local communities.

Competition, competition, competition.  I am an advocate for charter schools, tax credits, and federal vouchers for education.

Going on the Energy Offensive

We need to go on the energy offensive to put energy jobs back in Wyoming and position our great state to lead the nation toward energy independence. Increase the demand for natural gas by modifying publicly funded vehicle fleets in Wyoming, all the way down to the local school buses, to run on natural gas, and incentivize energy companies to do the same. Increased natural gas demand will equate to higher coal prices, which will result in more revenue for the state. Our goal should be to make our clean and plentiful fuel and energy sources accessible to all and help America become energy independent.  To learn more about Darin's energy plan, visit www.gocleanamerica.com.

Wyoming's Coal

Wyoming’s coal is the cleanest coal in the world, so we must get it to market.  If environmentalists are truly worried about the environment, they should be advocates and help us get our coal to China and India. We must move quickly to build a consortium of partners (federal, state, and private industry) to encourage Oregon and Washington to open up their ports to Wyoming coal.  If they continue to stall, we have no choice but to constitutionally force their ports open via the Commerce Clause (Article 1 Section 8, Clause 3).  We must fight the Hillary Clintons of the world who are attempting to destroy the coal industry through unilateral and unconstitutional federal agency regulations.   See the "Limited Government" section for Darin Smith's plan to block the unconstitutional War on Coal.

Obamacare

Americans are facing ridiculous increases in premiums and deductibles, fewer health care plans to choose from, and less access to the doctors we choose to go to.  We need to provide tax credits for health care premiums and incentivize competition by allowing any insurance company from any state to compete for any citizen’s business, regardless of the state they reside.

Agriculture

We must replace federal bureaucracy with common sense.  We need to rescind unconstitutional federal agency overreach into Wyoming agriculture. For example, unelected officials are using the EPA’s Waters of the U.S. Rule in an attempt to control every pond, ditch, and stream in Wyoming. This is a violation of the 10th Amendment and the Separation of Powers.  See the “Limited Government” section for Darin’s plan to block this unconstitutional overreach.

ISIS, Radical Islam, and Israel

When you take an 8th Century morality and give it a 21st Century democratic governing system, you end up with the power vacuum that has spawned ISIS.  We must now fix what we broke, destroy ISIS, and oppose radical Islam and anti-Semitism wherever they rear their ugly heads, whether in the Middle East or in our nation’s universities.  The United States also must support Israel, the only Democracy and defender of human rights in the Middle East.
